Hello, everyone! Today I am excited to share a tutorial for crocheting and embellishing a set of team scarves! This is an awesome project to make for yourself or for gifts - you can make a scarf for any college, high school, or professional team. Perfect for students and sports fans (and just in time for the holidays!).
To make a team scarf you will need yarn in your team colors, a piece of coordinating felt, a needle & thread, a yarn needle, and scissors. You'll also need a piece of paper and a marker, but you probably have those items in your house already.
I used regular craft store yarn (Aran 10ply such as Red Heart, TLC, Vanna's Choice, or anything similar is perfect) and an H8/5.0mm crochet hook. Using inexpensive yarn means that you can get enough supplies to make two scarves for under $10!
To make the Wide Rugby Scarf you will need equal amounts of two colors:
Chain 25 with your first color.
Rows 1-10: work in double crochet (with first color).
Switch to second color.
Rows 11-20: work in double crochet (with second color).
Repeat rows 1-20 until you have 12 blocks of color (scarf will be about 71 inches long).
Weave in all loose ends.
To make the Patterned Stripe Scarf you will need a main color and a secondary color. The entire scarf is worked in double crochet :
Chain 20 with your main color.
Rows 1-5: main color
Rows 6-7: secondary color
Rows 8-12: main color
Rows 13-14: secondary color
Row 15: main color
Row 16: secondary color
Row 17: main color
Rows 18-19: secondary color
Crochet rows 1-19 a total of six times. Then repeat rows 1-12 once more (scarf will measure about 72 inches long).
To add the team logo to your scarf you will need to assemble your felt, a marker & paper, scissors, and a needle & thread. Find a copy of your team logo to trace (or sketch one yourself if you are able). It is simple to find logos online for tracing : )
Cut out your logo in the size you want (I made mine about 3 inches), then lay it on the felt and trace. I traced my backwards so any marker lines would be on the back.
Cut out your felt pieces and position on top of the scarf.
Use your needle and thread to stitch the logo in place.
